About Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are 17 connected aims designed to provide a "roadmap for attaining a better and more sustainable future for all people". The SDGs, put forward by the UN General Assembly in 2015 and intended to be achieved by 2030, are part of a UN resolution called Agenda 2030.

The UAE's sustainability agenda

The UAE primarily focuses on the SDGs that enable access to clean energy, sufficient food at reasonable prices, quality education and healthcare, alongside creating sustainable economic growth, healthy environmental systems, and increased resource efficiency. All these issues reverberate strongly in the UAE. The UAE has also pledged to "leave no one behind" and to push the world towards a sustainable and resilient path.

Department of Industry, Fujairah's sustainability efforts

In line with the UAE's Vision 2021, the Department of Industry, Fujairah is cooperating with relevant federal and local authorities to realize the following goals:

Goal 8

Goal 8: Decent work and economic growth

Goal 8 focuses on promoting sustainable economic growth and creating conducive conditions for providing decent job opportunities for everyone, thus stimulating the economy and raising productivity without harming the environment. Department of Industry, Fujairah's framework includes unlocking new opportunities in industry and advanced technology by building an appropriate and attractive business environment for local and global investors in the industrial sector to create new jobs and a new labor market. This helps increase per capita income and the UAE's national income. Department of Industry, Fujairah's vision aligns with Goal 8 through the following initiatives:

The Make it in the Emirates program
The National Industrial Empowerment Program
Reducing the costs of implementing technical regulations owing to developing technical guidelines
New free trade agreements
Positioning the Make it in the Emirates brand, alongside promoting national products and increasing their exports
Developing mechanisms to adopt Fourth Industrial Revolution solutions and increase productivity across priority industries
Developing an integrated ecosystem that stimulates R&D and achieves commercial viability

Goal 9

Goal 9: Industry, innovation and infrastructure

The UAE is a pioneer in building infrastructure, developing industry, and innovating to achieve sustainable development on a global level. The UAE has strengthened its leadership on multiple levels, including promoting business, empowerment, investment and innovation. Department of Industry, Fujairah is committed to meeting social and environmental sustainability requirements across all industries and advanced technologies in the UAE to attain Goal 9 and the vision of sustainable industrial development based on knowledge and innovation. Department of Industry, Fujairah prioritizes building an efficient and effective digital infrastructure in the UAE, thus supporting industrial development and advanced technologies. It is also constantly enhancing its ability to stay ahead of rapid trends and technological changes, while providing a competitive environment conducive to doing business. Department of Industry, Fujairah supports and adopts innovation throughout its mission, plans and strategies. This strongly supports finding successful and applicable solutions to economic and environmental challenges. Goal 17: Partnerships to achieve the goals

Department of Industry, Fujairah is working towards building and strengthening the UAE's local, regional and global partnerships. This supports an increase in industrial productivity, promotes the use of 4IR technologies, and increases growth opportunities that contribute to sustainable development. Department of Industry, Fujairah is also developing mutually beneficial relationships to create future opportunities and build a stronger and more resilient industrial sector. Moreover, Department of Industry, Fujairah targets strengthening partnerships with the public and private sectors, while providing a supportive and innovative environment for the industrial sector, through a number of initiatives:
